A Capital Under Water

Photographed for The Times of India in Delhi in July 2025, this series documents how the monsoon disrupted everyday life across the Indian capital. In Old Delhi, heavy rainfall contributed to the collapse of an already vulnerable building, leaving behind debris and raising renewed concerns about ageing infrastructure in densely populated neighbourhoods. Elsewhere, waterlogged streets restricted movement, slowed public and private transport, and intensified traffic congestion across the city.

The photographs also document severely damaged Municipal Corporation of Delhi residential buildings, where prolonged exposure to rain had worsened structural deterioration. Despite residents repeatedly seeking assistance, many reported receiving limited support, revealing how seasonal flooding and inadequate maintenance placed some of the city’s most vulnerable communities at greater risk.
